Over the past few years there have been many drugs introduced that can help men deal with the condition of erectile dysfunction. These medicines have been a huge help to many men, often allowing them to finally have a more normal sexual relationship with their partner. Vardenafil is one such drug. Its commercial name is Levitra. The majority of men who take Levitra have found it successful at treating their condition. Furthermore, it seems to be a safe drug. However, if you are considering using Levitra to address erectile dysfunction, you may want to first know that headaches are one of this drug’s most common side effects

Why can Levitra cause Headaches?

To understand the answer to this question, it is important to know exactly how this medication works in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Most impotence drugs do not “cure” the problem behind erectile dysfunction; instead they work to maximize the conditions for an erection to occur.

The drugs relax muscles around the penis – which allows more blood flow – which allows the penis to become erect.

However, what many do not know is that Levitra increases blood flow through out the entire body, including the head. Headaches are often caused by increased blood flow to the head. Hence, headaches often occur in those taking the drug.

How often is there a Link between Levitra and Headaches?

Several studies have been done and the results have varied. Levitra has been found to cause headaches in two to ten percent of the men who take it. Of course, women don’t take Levitra so these studies only involve men. Men who already suffer from migraine or cluster headaches may want to find another solution to their erectile dysfunction as Levitra may trigger their headaches. If you suffer from headaches you will definitely want to discuss that with your doctor before considering Levitra. Finally, if you do experience headaches after taking Levitra, you may find that they go away after a few days. Therefore, give the drug a chance. If the headaches continue for a couple weeks they you may want to discontinue the use of Levitra.

Those who suffer from headaches, as well as those who don’t, may want to consider exercising more as a form of treatment for erectile dysfunction. One nine-year study found that men who exercised experience ED less than men who didn’t exercise. Exercise may even help cure your headaches, where Levitra may only intensify them.
