Does a Caffeine Headache Bother You Every Morning?

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

I have suffered from several caffeine headaches because I drink a lot of caffeine through out the day. In fact, I had quite a caffeine withdrawal headache this morning because I slept until eleven. I usually wake up at seven in the morning, but the Red Sox are playing in Arizona this weekend and the games don’t start until ten at night. I got to bed late and therefore woke up late. My head was pounding from a caffeine headache and I knew immediately that I had to get some coffee inside of me. (more…)

Treatment for Migraine Headaches

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

One of the most common headaches is the migraine headache. It affects about 15% of the population, and more women suffer from it. Like other headaches, migraine headaches torture these people and their families’ lives. And for a long time, the solution to this pain has been under study and has been improving all the time.

So for the people who are bothered by the migraine headache, it’s better to keep contact with your doctors and keep your checkups updated. You might find something to reduce the pain and the frequency of the attacks.

I always like to point out the value of finding out the causes of headaches. Most of the headache sufferers will only think about alleviating the pain first, especially migraine headache sufferers. The disadvantage of doing things this way is you won’t have the knowledge to treat headaches with home remedies. Another downside is that if you are unclear about the cause of the headache, you will likely use the wrong remedy. The headache pain you are suffering from may be the result of too much sugar or some other food. Without knowing what the actual cause of your pain is you will not be able to definitively treat it. Your first task is to be sure of what kind of pain you have.

How Does A Migraine Headache Behave?

Migraines can begin in a couple of different ways. For some, the headache begins with an aura, which can consist of dots, wavy lines or flashing lights in the edge of the line of vision with one eye. These auras will usually begin approximately 30 minutes prior to the onset of the migraine headache, and can be accompanied by a tingling or numbness in the arms or face. For others, the headache will begin with an intense throbbing on one side of the head. This pain may be followed with nausea or vomiting, and can be intensified by exposure to bright lights, certain odors or loud noises. Sometimes the pain will remain in one location, and other times it will alternate from side to side. It may be worse with movement, such as bending forward or even walking about.

Treatment of Migraines

First of all, go to the doctor to check if you are suffering from a migraine headache because there are several different kinds of headaches which need different solutions. Usually the migraine headache needs preventive medication, or good self-care. Also, medications, such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) or aspirin, may be a good pain-reliever of mild migraines, and some medicine like Cardiovascular drugs, Antidepressants, Anti-seizure drugs, Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) maybe good solutions. In the end, good self-care is also necessary for you not to trigger the onset of a migraine headache.

What Are The Various Migraine Headache Causes?

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

There are four things you should look at when looking for migraine headaches causes. The first is food sensitivities, which means you’ll have to do a little research to find the foods you are sensitive to. The second is environmental factors, such as the air or smells. Stress is a huge cause of migraines. You ought to have a system for dealing with stress if you don’t already have one. Your physical health, or lack of it, can also cause migraines.

Are You Sensitive To Foods?

Something you are eating could be the cause of your headaches. Common foods are dairy products, artificial sweeteners, chocolate, alcohol, processed meat products (lunch meat, hot dogs), caffeine, and most fatty foods.

There are a few ways to investigate your migraine headache causes.  A doctor may suggest omitting the suspect food from the person’s diet for a set amount of time or keeping a food and headache diary, recording what foods the person eats and which of those days headaches occur to try to establish a pattern.

Is It Something In Your Environment

Your migraine headache causes may be triggers in your environment.  There are many external migraine headache causes which people cannot always avoid, these people may be able to take some precautions such as wearing sun glasses or taking an over the counter motion sickness medication if the nausea leads to headaches when traveling.

Are You Not Properly Dealing With Stress?

Stress is one of the greatest migraine headache causes. Many people have anxiety from situations in the work place, at home, with family, and many other situations which lead to severe headaches.

Depression is another of the migraine headache causes; when people suffer from depression they tend to use extra stimulants such as coffee or nicotine to compensate for their moods which can also cause migraine headaches.  Some people also tend to consume alcohol when they are depressed to cope with their feelings. An excess of alcohol is also a known cause of migraine headaches.

Is It Something Physical

Poor sleep is a common cause of migraine headaches. Every person’s body requires a unique amount of sleep, for most people that is between six and nine hours each night.  When a person has trouble sleeping it can affect their whole next day by plaguing them with severe head pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light or sound.

Something else you want to be careful of, believe it or not, is not to get too much sleep.  Most people thrive on sleeping for a set amount of time each day waking and sleeping at the same times, for some migraine headache sufferers regulating their sleeping pattern could reduce their occurrence of headaches immensely.

You should never think that you just have to live with migraine headaches. It is very likely that your headaches are being caused by something you are doing, whether it is not dealing with stress as you should, or not sleeping well. What you should not do is just rely on medication to deal with migraines. Meds are fine to manage the pain only while you are striving to find your migraine headache causes.

What Are The Major Migraine Headache Triggers?

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Migraine headache triggers are important to understand if you want to manage your headache pain. However, staying away from the triggers is only half the battle. You have to find the root cause of your migraines and treat it. If you do, the trigger that caused a migraine for you no longer will do so. That is the beauty of finding the root of your condition. Read everything on this site and sign up for my newsletter to help you with this.

You would be extremely surprised at how many people are suffering from migraines. In America alone, over twenty-eight million people suffer from migraine headaches.  Migraine headaches are more common in women; for every one man who suffers from a migraine headache, there are three women.

Once you understand what the migraine headache triggers are, you just need to learn to avoid those things, while at the same time dealing with the root cause, which is usually built-up stress.  Often times, you can just examine the migraine headache triggers and determine which aspect of your life is the cause of your migraine headaches.  Once you know which migraine headache triggers relate to your situation, it will become easier to find a treatment.

What Might Be Your Migraine Headache Triggers?

Built up stress is the most common of the migraine headache triggers.  Another common trigger of migraines is certain foods, such as alcohol, aged cheeses, chocolate, aspartame, caffeine, MSG, seasonings, and some canned or processed foods.  Migraines can also be caused by fasting or skipping meals.

High impact activities can are also common migraine headache triggers, such as sexual activity, intense exercise, or a change in sleep patterns are also migraine headache triggers.  But, remember, high impact exercise is good for you. Don’t think that because it triggers your migraines that you should avoid exercise. The root cause of your migraines is built up stress in the form of tightened muscles in your head, neck and back. By managing your stress effectively, high impact exercise will no longer be among the migraine headache triggers for you

Who Gets Migraines?

Certain people are more likely to get migraines. These people may do well to managed their stress more effectively.  Migraine headaches most commonly occur in girls that have already passed through puberty.  Women who experience migraines find that their likelihood of experiencing one increases during menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause.  Migraine headaches also run in families; if even one of your parents’ experiences migraines then you are much more likely to develop them yourself.

The Best Way To Treating Migraine Headaches

It is believed that migraines are the result of built up stress. If you don’t effectively deal with stress, you will always be tense and uptight. When you are tense you will unknowingly tighten up your muscles or grind your teeth. Day after day in this way, your muscles will become permanently tight thereby blocking circulation. When this happens, you will become prone to headaches. It is in this state that all the migraine headache triggers above will cause you grief. You should avoid the triggers in the short term and learn to properly manage your stress in the long term.
