Causes of a Tension Headache

May 10th, 2009

The biggest problem of a tension headache is that everyone has had them. There is nothing funny about the pain that this type of headache can bring. The root cause of a tension headache is of course, tension. Knowing that tension is at the root of the problem, it would seem that people could alleviate a tension headache altogether.

What causes tension in a person’s life? Being at work in any job that has deadlines or quality policies can add stress to perform at a level higher than they really want to. Dealing with this can take away the problem; not dealing with them can get someone fired or make them super stressed.

If people are struggling in a marriage and feel trapped or confined, a tension headache will be easy to get. The stress comes from different stress points through the day. People can’t always control their own environment at work or at home, or even with the people that they deal with daily.

What can be done is to know that the tension doesn’t need to build up and make someone explode. It is vitally important to understand the stress in a person’s life. Once that is accomplished, the person can then work on the best way to deal with the tension. Doctors have proof showing that a person under stress, who doesn’t have a way to deal with the tension, will develop other health problems and die before those who have developed ways to effectively deal with the stress problems in their life.

Dealing With a Tension Headache

The first step in controlling a tension headache is to acknowledge the cause or causes of stress and do what it takes to deal with the stress in a healthy way. A person may try adding some “me time” into the day. A person may find that working out for an hour or even a half hour everyday provides relief. This is a great way to relieve a tension headache and get in good physical shape.

Instead of coming home every night and drinking, going for a walk in the neighborhood can help. Sometimes, talking with neighbors along the way can make a big difference. Instead of staying up half the night thinking about all the problems, try getting a full eight hours of sleep every night.

The problems will still be there but a person can deal with the problems better when they are well rested. Some people find that getting involved in some sort of hobby allows a relief from daily stressors. Whatever a person can find to relieve stress will help relieve tension headaches. Not only will people have relief from pain, they will be healthier with a better quality of living and possibly a longer life.

Do You Have a Vascular Headache? Do You Know What Causes it?

May 10th, 2009

The medically recognized term of vascular headache can be pretty much confusing for many people, depending on the frequency of such headaches coming to them. If it’s a common thing in the family, some may even know on what medications to be taken on what symptoms. Well, actually vascular headache is the most commonly found headache, for the causes of this type of headache can be very common and present in your house itself.

To make things simple, vascular headache can be divided into three different known types, and that would be cluster headaches, migraines, and toxic headaches. This type of headache is normally where the blood vessels’ swelling or disturbances causes the pain. Indeed it is often seen in many people, for the swelling here can be caused by anything from non-balance of musculo skeletal to stress.

Migraines

This is probably the most common among the three. It’s a medically recognized neurological disease, and as we know, the most famous symptom would be the intense and disabling episodic headache. Some people tend to confuse this type of vascular headaches with other common ones such as tension headaches, but generally the difference can be seen to be photophobia or hypersensitivity to light, phonophobia or hypersensitivity to sound, and nausea.

There are many different types of migraines and they can be caused by anything from silent head injuries, stroke, tumors, and so on. In terms of treatments for this vascular headache, there are some medications available, although in general they are all pretty expensive.

Toxic headaches

This could be very rare, but is pretty common among rural folks who are exposed to toxins and certain types of foods. This type of vascular headache can also come from a fever from measles, mumps, pneumonia, and tonsillitis. Commonly, the cause would be the buildup of toxins inside or exposure from outside the body. Inside refers to the wastes of the body, and outside refers to chemicals such as lead, insecticides, alcohol, caffeine, and so on.

Cluster headaches

This type of vascular headache is also very rare, but when it comes, it is really painful. It commonly comes in groups or clusters, and can be very extremely severe. Normally aching around one eye or the temple, this vascular headache can last from fifteen minutes to several hours or even days! It can be caused by genetic problems, alcohol, and triggers such as Nitroglycerin and hydrocarbons.

What Are The Major Migraine Headache Triggers?

May 10th, 2009

Migraine headache triggers are important to understand if you want to manage your headache pain. However, staying away from the triggers is only half the battle. You have to find the root cause of your migraines and treat it. If you do, the trigger that caused a migraine for you no longer will do so. That is the beauty of finding the root of your condition. Read everything on this site and sign up for my newsletter to help you with this.

You would be extremely surprised at how many people are suffering from migraines. In America alone, over twenty-eight million people suffer from migraine headaches.  Migraine headaches are more common in women; for every one man who suffers from a migraine headache, there are three women.

Once you understand what the migraine headache triggers are, you just need to learn to avoid those things, while at the same time dealing with the root cause, which is usually built-up stress.  Often times, you can just examine the migraine headache triggers and determine which aspect of your life is the cause of your migraine headaches.  Once you know which migraine headache triggers relate to your situation, it will become easier to find a treatment.

What Might Be Your Migraine Headache Triggers?

Built up stress is the most common of the migraine headache triggers.  Another common trigger of migraines is certain foods, such as alcohol, aged cheeses, chocolate, aspartame, caffeine, MSG, seasonings, and some canned or processed foods.  Migraines can also be caused by fasting or skipping meals.

High impact activities can are also common migraine headache triggers, such as sexual activity, intense exercise, or a change in sleep patterns are also migraine headache triggers.  But, remember, high impact exercise is good for you. Don’t think that because it triggers your migraines that you should avoid exercise. The root cause of your migraines is built up stress in the form of tightened muscles in your head, neck and back. By managing your stress effectively, high impact exercise will no longer be among the migraine headache triggers for you

Who Gets Migraines?

Certain people are more likely to get migraines. These people may do well to managed their stress more effectively.  Migraine headaches most commonly occur in girls that have already passed through puberty.  Women who experience migraines find that their likelihood of experiencing one increases during menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause.  Migraine headaches also run in families; if even one of your parents’ experiences migraines then you are much more likely to develop them yourself.

The Best Way To Treating Migraine Headaches

It is believed that migraines are the result of built up stress. If you don’t effectively deal with stress, you will always be tense and uptight. When you are tense you will unknowingly tighten up your muscles or grind your teeth. Day after day in this way, your muscles will become permanently tight thereby blocking circulation. When this happens, you will become prone to headaches. It is in this state that all the migraine headache triggers above will cause you grief. You should avoid the triggers in the short term and learn to properly manage your stress in the long term.

Sinus Headache Relief

May 10th, 2009

The obvious first step to sinus headache relief is to share your sinus condition with your doctor. You want to rule out a more serious condition. You also want to determine the severity of your allergies. Depending on how serious your condition is will determine how you will seek the best sinus headache relief.

Now, in addition to a visit with your doctor I would like to also suggest that you take a serious look at your diet. If you consume a lot of sugar, whether directly like in your coffee or indirectly in the processed foods you eat, then you won’t get much sinus headache relief. Sugar destroys the effectiveness of your immune system and probably also feeds your allergies. You can also find relief by eliminating sugar from your diet, which takes away the food source of allergies and keeps your immune system strong.

Effective Sinus Headache Relief

If you don’t know what is causing your allergies then you need to do an experiment to see if it has to do with something you eat. Also, no matter what you are allergic to, if you take a lot of sugar in any form then it very could be exacerbating your allergies and giving you headaches.

So, the first step to sinus headache relief is to do a detox cleansing. My brother-in-law has serious eczema and asthma. He went on a detox cleanse and it cleared up his eczema and improved his asthma greatly. Now, many people have trouble staying on these kinds of diets. But that’s ok. Your purpose is subsist on just a few natural food items and then slowly introduce new foods you like every 3 days or so.

After a few days on the diet you should see some sinus headache relief. Then as you add new foods pay close attention to your allergies and congestion. If you start getting congested and getting headaches, then you’ve found the culprit.

Another great sinus headache relief method is EFT. The EFT approach sees allergies as having a psychological aspect to it. That’s not to say that your mind is completely responsible for your allergies, but it seems to play a part. EFT uses the pressure points that acupuncture does. You tap on them with your fingertips. Many have found EFT to be very successful at eliminating various kinds of ailments.
